Assignment 2

The play ''A dollshouse" by Henrik Ibsen is a very climatic play that portrays its characters in many ways. For example Nora is the seemingly ravishing, innocent and bobbleheaded to the world with no burden to carry, but in fact she carries the biggest load. Many may read and say she "struck a deal with the devil" but in true fact she did what she needed to do to keep her chauvinistic ,undeserving, bedridden husband alive and keep her family together.A symbol i picked up was the macaroons symbolizing Nora’s deceit to her husband and how she has to hide everything .Another was the dollhouse symbolizing the tendency of the characters to play roles (i cited both of these). The way this play relates to current day events is men and women are given these unannounced roles in society and may not even be aware of it . The same way Nora isnt regonizing that her husband treats her as a child, women as well as men often limit themselves because of the roles they give themselves in society without realizing it .

  2. Nice post, but i wonder if all this bobbleheadedness is real or a pretense. Also after all that unusual name calling what's her motivation for still being married to him, love or money?
